Race Notes and Recommendations - 2010

These race notes and recommendations apply to participation in the Corfe Mullen Carnival 5km and Junior Corfe Mullen Carnival Run.

  1. Participants in the 5 km race must be thirteen years of age or over on the 31st August 2009.
  2. Participants in the Junior 1 mile race must be between eight and thirteen years of age on race day.
  3. Entry forms of participants under the age of eighteen should by signed or counter signed by a parent/guardian.
  4. By submitting an entry form participants agree that the organisers may store details on computer disk for the purpose of race administration. If an e-mail address is supplied it will be added to our newsletter mailing list, which aims to provide participants with up-to-date information regarding the event. We take privacy very seriously and will not disclose your e-mail address or any other personal information to any third party.
  5. Race results will be published on this website.
  6. Photographic and video footage will be taken of the event by authorised personnel for both marketing purposes and the CM5K website
  7. Any participant unsure of their physical ability to take part in the Carnival Run must take medical advice from a general practitioner prior to the event.
  8. All participants enter this event entirely at their own risk and the organisers and sponsors shall not be liable for any injury or loss that might occur as a result of their participation.
  9. Absolutely no pets, baby strollers/prams are allowed on the course. Spectators are respectfully asked to keep pets on a lead.
  10. Race numbers must be pinned to the front of running vest shirts during the race and should be clearly visible to race officials when crossing the finish line. Safety pins will be available in the sports pavilion before the race.
  11. Participants should wear suitable clothing and footwear as appropriate for the conditions. Running spikes should not be worn in the junior carnival run.
  12. When on the course participants should abide by the race marshals instructions at all times.
  13. Participants should only cross the finish line once.
  14. Sponsorship forms can be stamped by a race official in the sports pavilion to obtain proof of completion, if required.
  15. Any sponsorship monies raised in connection with the Corfe Mullen Carnival Run must be passed to the Carnival organisers or nominated charity by 31 July 2010. Details of how to pay in your money can be found on the sponsorship form.
  16. Any spot prizes or goody bags awarded are given in good faith and in a manner that is completely random and without favour. The organisers cannot be held responsible for the quality or suitability of the prizes.
  17. Participants and spectators should park their vehicles in the designated car park. All vehicles are parked at the owners’ risk.

 

Frequently Asked Questions - 2010
1. What is the aim of the fun run?

The event will be raising money for the Corfe Mullen Carnival's nominated charities. This year the Carnival is supporting: Lytchett Riding for the Disabled and Phelipps Charity. The organisers would like to encourage participants to join in the fund raising effort by asking family and friends to sponsor their participation in the race.

2. Where can I get a sponsorship form?

Sponsorship forms can be downloaded from the event website "www.cm5k.co.uk".

3. Who is organising the fun run?

The fun run is being organised by members of the Corfe Mullen community, helped by members of various local running clubs. The race has the backing and support of the Corfe Mullen Parish Council, the Corfe Mullen Carnival Committee and the Corfe Mullen Sports Association.

4. Has the race been granted the UK: Athletics cross country race permit?

No, the race is being organised purely as a family fun run and is not intended to be an athletics meeting. However, the event is being organised to a high standard for the benefit and safety of all participants. The format of the event is in line with UK: Athletics guideline for fun runs and therefore should not exclude affiliated club runners from entering if they wish to do so.

5. Has a risk assessment been conducted for the event?

Yes, Health and Safety legislation recommends that a risk assessment is carried out before staging a cross country race. Although, this is not a permitted event, the UK: Athletics guidance to clubs on risk assessment for cross country races has been followed and the full risk assessment has been completed. A copy of the risk assessment is available for inspection upon request.

6. Is the event insured?

Yes, the event has public liability insurance of £5,000,000, to cover participants and spectators alike.

7. Can I run round with my child in the 1 mile race?

Yes, although this will not really be necessary. An adult runner will follow the young participants around the course and will encourage the slower runners to achieve the best performance that they can.

8. Will I be photographed during the event?

Yes, photographic and video footage will be taken of both races by authorised personnel for both marketing purposes and use on the CM5k website.

Our photographers will be identified by an “Official Photographer” badge, which they will wear during the event.

9. How do I enter?

Complete an entry form and send it to: Corfe Mullen Carnival 5km, c/o Richards Estate Agents, 147 Wareham Road, Corfe Mullen, Wimborne, Dorset, BH21 3LA. Alternatively, you can just drop your entry form into Richards Estate Agents in Corfe Mullen, if that is easier. Richards Estate Agents is open six days a week from 8:45 am to 6:30 pm Monday to Friday and between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturdays.

Please enclose an A5 (16cm x 23cm) SAE with your entry form for the return of your race number – thank you.

10. Where can I get an entry form?

Entry forms can be obtained from local sport centres, the Corfe Mullen Library and other local shops. Entry forms can also be downloaded from this website (www.cm5k.co.uk).

11. Where is the recreation ground in Corfe Mullen?

Corfe Mullen is just off the A31 south-west of Wimborne Minster. The recreation ground is located at the end of Badbury View Road, BH21 3HU (view multimap). The map below shows the location of the recreation ground and car park: -

12. Will I be able to park my car at the recreation ground on the night?

Parking at the recreation ground is limited, however, alternative parking has been arranged. Please follow signposts to Lockyer's Middle School, where ample parking will be available. Please take note of the instructions given by the car park marshals.

13. What facilities are there at the Corfe Mullen recreation ground?

The facilities are minimal. However, there are toilets in the sports pavilion, which will be open to the public on the night. The Corfe Mullen Guides and Brownies will be running a refreshment stall where participants and spectators can purchase hot and cold drinks, and snacks. The St John Ambulance will be in attendance to administer first aid in the unlikely event of an accident or injury.

14. Will I be able to enter on the night?

This year the number of entrants is limited. There will only be entries available on the night if the race limit has not been reached. Please return your entry form by Saturday the 5th of June to guarantee your place.

Please note that entries on race day will be £2:50 for the junior event and £4:50 for the 5km and will be subject to places being available.

15. Will there be prizes?

Junior 1 Mile

All finishers in the junior race will receive a commemorative medal. The first three boys and girls will also receive trophies.

Carnival 5km

Trophies will be awarded to the first three male and female finishers. There will also be spot prizes or goodie bags awarded to some lucky finishers.

16. When will the awards ceremony take place?

The organisers hope that all participants will stay for the awards ceremony, which will take place immediately after the fun run at the recreation ground.

17. Will race results be published?

Yes, full race results will be published on this website shortly after the event.

18. Is the course suitable for wheelchair participants?

No, the course is not suitable for wheelchair participants.

19. Can I wear spiked running shoes?

Spiked running shoes can be worn during the 5km event. However, it is preferred that they are not worn during the junior race.
